저희 셰난도어한인회는 셰난도어밸리 지역에(지역번호540) 거주하는 조용한 시골도시에 있습니다..2005년8월14일 사랑방모임으로 출발해서 한국인간의 사업정보,번영,이익을 도우며 살아간다는 취지와 말 한마디 못하는 자녀들의 교육을 목적으로,정체성을 찾아주기 위해서 한글교육을 시켜주기위해서 시작한 모임체입니다. 2005년8월까지는 불과 250명 내외였던 한국인이 이제는 3,000명으로 늘었지만 대부분 사업때문에 와서 자리잡고 계신 분들이 많고 고정적으로 삶의 터전을 두고 계신 분들은 약 700명에 지나지 않습니다.미국시민권자가 대부분인 그들은 식품점,양복점,세탁소,주유소,식당,양화점,등을 운영하고 계십니다.일년내내 청정한 공기와 울창한 숲속에 덮여 산다고해도 맞습니다. 기후는 사계절이 뚜렸하고요 약간 북쪽에 위치한 때문에 겨울은 대한민국보다는 조금 춥습니다.사과,배,포도,복숭아,담배 농장도 많고요, 미국동부의 대표격인 애팔래치안산맥의 북쪽끝이며 유명한 관광지로는 가을의 단풍이 대한민국의 설악산을 능가하는 ‘스카이라인’이 있고 세계에서 가장크고 오래된 종유동굴 ‘루레이’ 가 있습니다. 전인구의 90%가독일계미국인이고 대기업으로는 GE, Rubbermaid, Sysco , -그리고,대부분의 주민이 농장일을 할정도로 넓은 들판과 맑은 셰난도어강이 있기에 주민들은 늘 밝고 명랑합니다.그래서인지는 모르겠지만 큰 변화없이 조용하게 살고있는 저희 셰난도어한인회입니다.
